Position Overview

Buyer will be responsible for purchasing inventory for resale while reporting to Director of Purchasing.

Principle Duties and Essential Functions

  • Maintain optimum inventory levels by balancing the goals of maximizing the overall service level to at least 98.5% while maximizing inventory turns to a goal of four turns per year.
  • Create purchase orders to approved suppliers based on a periodic review schedule. This includes use of the computer generated purchase suggestions but also requires manual data entry.
  • Confirm orders with suppliers and update the orders in the system accordingly (e.g. delivery date, price).
  • Enter and maintain supplier data (part numbers, costs, lead times, etc.)
  • Enter and maintain product data (descriptions, costs, inventory control variables, bills of material, etc.)
  • Create work orders for packaging and production operations.
  • Follow-up late deliveries and expedite rush orders.
  • Create import shipments and coordinate from start to finish with suppliers, import broker, Accounts Payable, and Receiving.
  • Coordinate problems, returns.
  • Assist sales personnel.
  • Source and quote new business.
  • Meet with suppliers.


Education / Experience

  • Ability to read, write and speak English required
  • HS diploma preferred
  • Previous fastener experience preferred
