Strategic Commodity Buyer

Manage strategic sourcing of assigned commodities through analyzing data, preparing strategy, identifying supply base, preparing RFQ, negotiating contracts, managing supplier performance, building supplier relationship; all aimed at delivering goals related to cost, quality, delivery and risk, with the key metric and primary responsibility being cost reduction and profitability on assigned commodities.


JOB DESCRIPTION

Manage strategic sourcing of assigned commodities through analyzing data, preparing strategy, identifying supply base, preparing RFQ, negotiating contracts, managing supplier performance, building supplier relationship; all aimed at delivering goals related to cost, quality, delivery and risk, with the key metric and primary responsibility being cost reduction and profitability on assigned commodities. Member of network of Strategic Sourcing teams of other companies of WINA (Würth Industry of North America).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Analyze large sets of data from different sources to categorize and identify opportunities to reduce cost and improve profitability.
  • Prepare Commodity Strategies/Sourcing Strategies for assigned commodities using internal and external data, market intelligence, cost drivers, knowledge of supply base, expectations from business and customer’s needs.
  • Clearly define above strategies on how key metrics will be improved. Clearly communicate initiatives, actions, projects and tasks for immediate, medium and long-term time horizons.
  • Work with Strategic Sourcing teams from other WINA companies in the preparation and deployment of above strategies.
  • Deliver sustainable cost reduction and improve profitability by following through on above strategies. Execute those using project management methodology and by working with cross-functional teams that consists members from Tactical Procurement, Sales, Quality, Engineering and other WINA companies.
  • Negotiate price, terms, rebates, discounts, price adjustment framework, logistics arrangements with suppliers and execute contracts/long-term agreements with suppliers.
  • Clearly communicate performance expectations to supply base through agreements and actively manage performance of supply base through scorecard and periodic business reviews. Hold suppliers accountable for performance. Continuously improve supplier performance on assigned commodities.
  • Create mutually rewarding partnership and actively build strong relationship with supply base.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • 4 year Bachelor’s degree from accredited university, preferably in the areas of business management, supply chain, economics or engineering.
  • 2+ years’ experience in purchasing or sourcing activities; quality or engineering background.
  • Basic technical knowledge of fasteners and related products preferred.
  • Strong analytical and MS-Excel skills and ability to clean large data to build required reports.
  • Strong negotiation skill and basic knowledge of contracts and terms.
  • Very good communication skills and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to organize and manage workload to meet deadlines.
